Chesapeake Real Estate Group, LLC, an Anne Arundel County commercial real estate firm, is planning its first development.
More than a year after opening, Chesapeake is building a new trucking facility for Waste Management on an 11-acre site off Fairfield Road in Baltimore City.
Waste Management plans to relocate its 140-person operation from McGaw Court in Howard County to the city when the complex is completed, likely later this year, said Jim Lighthizer, partner of Chesapeake Real Estate Group.
In December, the commercial real estate firm picked up about 22 acres off Fairfield Road, an industrial area near the Port of Baltimore that city leaders are targeting for re-development.
Lighthizer said Chesapeake Real Estate Group has plans to develop the remaining land there. But before that gets under way the firm is mulling over its second project: a 100,000-square-foot expansion of a warehouse and office building on Mercedes Drive in Anne Arundel County.
Meantime, the Glen Burnie commercial real estate firm has formed a contracting subsidiary, Bay Contracting LLC, to assist with development.
Bay Contracting will provide general contracting, construction management and consulting services for Chesapeake Real Estate Group.
“In-house construction expertise significantly helps us to better evaluate and complete new projects,” said Doug Schmidt, another partner with Chesapeake.
Jeff Dillon, who has more than 20 years of general contracting experience at Nardi Construction, will serve as director of Bay Contracting. Dillon is known for building Marshfield Business Park in Baltimore County, Gateway 270 in Clarksburg and Cotler Business Park in Rockville.
Also hired for the contracting arm was Deborah Phillips, who will serve as a project manager. Phillips also came from Nardi Construction.
